Step-by-Step Guide

1

Upload Your CV

Click 'Upload CV' on the main page and select your CV file. We accept PDF and DOCX formats up to 10 MB. Don't have a CV yet? Use the 'Create from Scratch' tab to build one with our guided form.

CVwise auto-detects the language of your uploaded CV. If you are building a CV from scratch, select the language you will write in before starting.

2

Enter the Job Description

Paste the job posting URL, paste the full text directly, or upload the job description as a PDF/DOCX. CVwise extracts the role, required skills, and key phrases automatically.

Tip: The more complete the job description, the more targeted the optimization.

3

Choose Your Format (Optional)

Check 'Use Harvard CV Format' if you are applying to academic, research, or law positions. Harvard format emphasizes publications, education, and research experience over a traditional chronological layout.

4

Optimize

Click 'Optimize CV'. Our AI — trained on 1,000+ top-tier CVs and informed by expert HR consultants — rewrites your CV to match the job description, pass ATS filters, and highlight your strongest points.

This step takes about 30–60 seconds. Free plan includes 3 optimizations per month. You can also select the output language before optimizing — the default is English. Your optimized CV will be generated in whichever language you choose.

5

Review & Download

Review the optimized CV side-by-side with the original. Check the match score and ATS keywords. When satisfied, download as PDF (all plans) or DOCX (Pro). Pro users can also export in Harvard format.

6

Generate a Cover Letter (Pro)

Pro users can click 'Generate Cover Letter' after optimization. CVwise writes a tailored, recruiter-tested cover letter in the language of your CV, adapted to the job posting. Export as DOCX for easy editing.

Quick Tips

  • Always tailor your CV for each application — generic CVs score lower.
  • Use the ATS keyword panel to see which job keywords are missing from your CV.
  • Keep your CV to 1–2 pages; the AI will flag overly long sections.
  • If a PDF parses poorly, try uploading as DOCX.
  • Check Version History to compare past optimizations side-by-side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my CV data stored securely?

Yes. Your CV is processed in memory and saved only to your personal account. We never share or sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for details.

What is the free plan limit?

Free plan includes 3 CV optimizations per month and PDF export. DOCX export, cover letter generation, and AI chat editing require a Pro plan.

Can I use CVwise on mobile?

Yes. CVwise is a Progressive Web App (PWA). Tap 'Install' in the browser menu to add it to your home screen for a native app experience.

What is ATS and why does it matter?

ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is software used by companies to filter CVs before a human reads them. CVwise optimizes keyword density and formatting so your CV passes ATS filters.
